SERVICES &
EQUIPMENT
Tanilba Bay Veterinary Hospital is fitted out with all the equipment needed for diagnosing and treating illnesses in your pets.
Our air conditioned consulting rooms have the equipment at hand for basic diagnostic tests.
Digital thermometers give us accurate temperatures of our patients.
Top quality Littmann stethoscopes allow us to check out the heart and lung sounds of our patients.
An otoscope provides light and magnification when we examine the inside of dogs' and cats' ears.
A direct and an indirect opthalmoscope let us look at the inner structures of our patients' eyes.
We are one of only a handful of veterinary practices in Australia to have a Tonovet, an instrument which allows us to measure the pressure in eyes, which can help diagnose several conditions, including glaucoma.
Schirmer Tear Test Strips are use to measure tear production and Fluorescein Test Strips are used to check for ulcers on the cornea.
Our Wood's lamp gives off an ultraviolet light and is used to check for ringworm in cats.
We have a powerful Xray machine which lets us take Xrays of even the largest dogs. An automatic processor develops and fixes the Xray films quickly and reliably. A range of different Xray films and screens let us take Xrays of all our patients, large and small.
To make sure that our patients are anaesthetised safely, we have two gaseous anaesthetic machines, one in our treatment room and one in our operating theatre.
A multifunction monitoring unit is used to monitor blood pressure, blood oxygen level, internal temperature and respiratory rate in anaesthetised animals.
The operating theatre is equiped with the instruments needed to perform most soft tissue and orthopaedic surgeries.
Some specialised equipment is used to help us with diagnosis and treatment.
We use an ultrasound machine to look at the size and structure of organs in the abdomen.
A cryosurgery unit is used to freeze small skin lumps and other tissues which are better removed by this method than by surgery.
An electrocautry unit can be used to remove tissues or to control bleeding from small blood vessels.
Two endoscopes - one rigid and one flexible - are used to look into body cavities such as the throat, windpipe, nose, oesophagus (gullet) and stomach.
For dental procedures we use an iM3 Dental Unit with a high speed drill, polishing hand piece, suction, water and air sprays.
Two infusion pumps are used to give our patients intravenous fluids. They make sure that the right amount of fluid is given at the correct rate.
Our in-house laboratory is set up to let us do pathology tests on site, which gives us the results we need quickly.
Two centrifuges separate blood and urine samples before processing.
A microscope lets us look at blood, urine, skin and tissue samples in fine detail.
Our VetTest 8008 analyser is used to measure a range of chemicals and enzymes in the blood.
A QBC Autoreader performs blood counts, measuring and analysing red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets.
Our VetLyte machine measures electrolytes (salts) in blood samlpes.
We use a refractometer to measure how concentrated urine is and to measure protein levels in blood.
Reagent strips are used to measure various chemicals in urine samples.
